French Mani ft Christmas

Here is a peak at how I painted my nails for Christmas. I am getting very in the mood for Christmas, a bit late though :)
I used Sally Hansen Insta-Dri in Wined Up and Jumpin' Jade.

On that note, I wish all of you a very merry Christmas!

FOTD- Blue smoke you said?

Now that I am on break and that I have more time on my hands, I have been enjoying taking time to do my makeup. I have been wearing the old, boring, eyeliner on the tight line and mascara for way to long now. I am finally back to my beloved shadows and assortments.
This is why I have decided to branch out of my safe neutrals to more colors.
So this is my first more "daring" daytime fotd: Blue smokey-ish eye.

Used up so far....

Who would have thought using up products was this hard. Beauty gurus and bloggers always made it look so easy.... I have been at it for almost a month and hardly any products are used up. This is slowly becoming a bit of a drag... I did finish a tone of face care but since it's the makeup i wanted to downsize, I thought it useless to count the face creams, washes, etc.
None the less, I am proud to say I did finish a couple of products.

-Clarins Gelee Eclat du Jour: Now, I know I just said that I didn't count face creams and such but I was so eager to finish this one that I thought it should count. It is a gel like consistency, smells very nice, fresh. It is advertised as being a moisturizer for a younger audience. The website describes it as  " matifying and invigorating, this gel gives your skin a balanced hydration throughout the day. Not greasy, it is also an excellent makeup base." It does do that more or less. I was a bit  disappointed by it, but I think it's because I was expecting too much of it. Also, I was a bit annoyed at the fact that it didn't contain SPF.

- Rimmel London Sexy Curves Waterproof: This mascara didn't particularly stand out for me. It was pretty good in the summer when I didn't want to wear a lot of makeup or look like I was wearing any. It slightly curled my lashes, nothing outstanding. It made them look pretty natural though.

-Maybelline Colossal Volume Express: I really liked this mascara. It's the kind that you slap on and go. It defined my lashes very well and gave them a bit of volume and length. Once again it was pretty natural. I really liked it for everyday use. It was great in the morning when I was late because it's the kind of mascara you can put on without looking.

So here you go. I am slowly and not very efficiently using up other products. Hopefully it will go a bit faster from now on.
Tell me your thoughts on these products and what have you been using up?

Black Swan

So as I said in my last post, I recently went to see BLACK SWAN with Natalie Portman. The movie was interesting. Its those kinds of movie that are rather scary because they address a subject and events that really do happen. Although we might not realize it. It talks about a ballerina that lives with her mom and struggles to "lose herself in her dancing". She goes a bit crazy and slightly schizophrenic.
The makeup though was truly beautiful! You probably have seen a million of these by now, but here is my take on the Black Swan makeup she wears at the end of the movie.

Face

KRYOLAN Supracolor white
Illamasqua Kiss blush
MAC Blunt blush

Eyes

Yves Saint Laurent Dessin du Regard Haute Tenue black eyeline
Physician's Formula Black gel liner
Black eyeshadow from the 88 matte
Silver streaks: YSL Eclat de Givre+ Lancome Ombre Absolue in Erika

Lips

Plum lipliner
YSL black eyeliner (corner of the mouth)
Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Plum

Hope you like it.

Regrets! Regrets! Regrets!

Now, today I will  address a touchy subject. "Products I regret buying!" Aaaah, how many of you have bought a product because of the hype or the packaging. Sure, half the time it's a great product and you are eternally grateful of having bought this. But what about the other 50% of the time where we mentally beat our self up every time we open our makeup drawer and see this product that has only been used once or twice at most. So here is a list of the products I bought and that didn't work out for me. Keep in mind though, this is my personal opinion and these might work great for you.

-REVLON Brow Styling Gel: I really needed a brow gel and got this on a whim at Duane Reade. This wouldn't be a bad product apart from the fact that a couple of hours after being applied, after it set, it starts to flake. Disgusting isn't it? Yes. One day , as I was at school, my friend looked at me and said there was something weird on my eyebrows. I went to the bathroom to find out that my brow gel had peeled. It had the same effect as when you  let glue dry on you hand then peal it off, except on your face. So I don't recommend this product to anyone, unless this is the look you're looking for. Which I certainly hope not.

-Lancome Color Fever Gloss in Fuschia: Now, don't get me wrong, overall this product is very good. The color is very opaque and the consistency is very nice. But I don't know why I bought this since I hate gloss. Plus, although the color is completely gorgeous, it is rather hard to wear and not forgiving at all.

-CoverGirl Lipstain: I just don't find myself using this product. Ever. Plus I don't find it to have a very good staying power, for a stain at least.

-MUFE Aqua Smoky Lash: Now before I get death sentence for bashing about this product, hear me out. This mascara is pretty good, its very black, and does your make your lashes look pretty good. But I regret buying it because it is too clumpy for my taste and its takes me soo long to apply. It gets everywhere and is very messy, I have to put it on, run through it with a clean mascara wand, and then clean up my eyelid and undereye. It just isn't worth it to me. Especially for the price it is. Granted it may be that I don't use it well, although, I mean, it's mascara, there isn't a 1000 ways to apply mascara. I just don't have that kind of time, when I get ready in the morning.

-NARS Gold Member Creamblush: I bought this after I saw it in Seventeen magazine. They said it would save time in the morning, that you could use it on your eyes, lips, and cheeks. Being the very lazy, not-a-morning-person, always late that I am, this sounded too good to be true. I ran out and bought it. I haven't used it much since. It is a bright yellow gold. It creases like nothing else on the eyes, so thats a big no-no. And why on earth would I put such a color on my lips or the apple of my cheeks. I can use this as a highlight for certain looks but it looks a bit akward. So that was 26 wasted dollars.

-Tokidoki Perfetto Eyeliner: I was so excited when I got this. The packaging is super cute, the color is very black and it is capable of making both thick and thin line. What's wrong you ask? The fact that the tip isn't supple at all, and that for this reason it is impossible, for me at least, to properly line my eyes. It is just so darn hard to use *sob sob*

So here it is, the list of my non-beloved products for you.
What are yours?

Dear Santa...

Aaah, Christmas time is back one more. Probably my favorite time of the year. It's the break (soon), freezing crispy air, hot tea and chocolate to warm your hands on, snow (hopefully). And of course, presents.
Weirdly, this year I don't really know what I want for Christmas. I usually have a 2 miles long list ready by mid november for Christmas, but this year, ideas seem to be missing.

But of course I do have a couple of ideas on what I want. So this is what I will be asking for:

-CLARISONIC BRUSH

I have heard so many good things about this. It is supposed to clear up your skin, make it super healthy, and all these good things. I actually went to buy it with my mom when Sephora was having 20% Off but will only get it Christmas day. So I'm excited for that.

- SIGMA Premium Professional Kit

I have the original kit and I adore it. This one seems even better, it has all the less traditional brushes. It just looks so good. Its like candy for me :)

What will you be asking for Christmas?

Shall we go to Target?

This late afternoon I went on a last minute trip to Target and Costco. For almost the first time in my life, I have been VERY GOOD. I bought almost nothing. ALMOST, of course, or I wouldn't be writing this post :)
I did get a black cardigan because I am longing my Zara one I bought this summer and until I can go get it again I will do with this one.
I have a dress code at my school. Grey pants/skirt/dress, white blouse, navy or gray sweater and dark, one colored shoes. Boring isn't it. So because of this dress code, almost all my dresses are grey, and during the weekend, I want to wear ANYTHING but gray. So I got this cute dress. It's flow-y in a black very thin fabric.

Lace details

Btw, I got both of these 50% off ( so for about 11$ each). Don't you just love sales on already ridiculously cheap things? :)
Also, the Oh-so-sweet Chloe from Allforfashion, was nice enough to get me an eyeshadow from the C.C.O when she went. Its gorgeous and I love it. So thaank you soo much! ♥
I know I'm on Project 10 Pan, but it was a present. So it doesn't really count. Right?

Don't mind the fact that only half my face is done....

So a couple of nights ago, I was playing with my makeup and I dug out my Too Faced Natural Eye palette. I don't know why I stopped using it, it really is quite nice. Anyway, this is what I came up with, if you are interested.

 Eyes:
Too Faced Natural Eye Palette
Lancome Color Design Duo eyeliner in Ruffles Pink on tightline (faded through the day)
MUFE Aqua Smokey Lash ( faded and looks ridiculous cause I haven't quite got the hang of it yet)

Face:
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage

Lips:
MUFE Aqua lip in 1C
MAC Viva Glam Gaga l/s

Same look after I rediscovered my NIVEA by Chantal Thomass Stay Real Blush in Secret Rose 05.

Rough Side....

Effy Stonem, from SKINS season 3 and 4.

I loooove that show, although I have to say, I was very disappointed by the 4th season. It was too depressing, I didn't finish it. So I am a bit skeptical about it starting again in January.

I love all the characters' style but my favorite is Effy (of course!). I just think she mastered that rolled-out-of-bed-but-im-totally-grungily-gorgeous look. Her messy completely smudged eye makeup is perfectly done, her wardrobe is too die for! I hate the fact that she pulls it off so well. And she  seems to be able to walk out wearing underwear and a t-shirt, and still look amazing.
That to say she is pretty much my beauty inspiration of the moment, although I am a bit too scared to try her look outside. I feel like I just can't pull it off. I like to blame it on my aesthetic traits and lack of skills in the smokey eye/black liner department. We just can't all be as gorgeous as Kaya Scodelario. Any who, a big Congrats! to her makeup artist and stylist.

A few of my favorite looks she sported on SKINS and others:

12 Questions TAG

I found this TAG on Elly's blog (www.ellysmakeupbag.blogspot.com)  and thought I'd give it a try. I always enjoyed these kind of TAGs.
Here I go:

1. What's your favorite makeup look?

I don't have one particular favorite makeup look. It really depends on how I feel, how much time I have, the weather. But I don't have a signature look or trademark I do everyday.

2. Do you have a beauty vice?

I guess my beauty vice would be that I can't stop buying makeup. I ALWAYS want new stuff, even though I have more than enough. Also I am  a complete neat freak  with my makeup organization. My whole room is a mess except my vanity. Everything is labeled and has its place. My friends always make fun of me for that.

3. What part of your body do you love?

Does eye color count?

4. Who is your beauty icon?

I don't have a certain beauty icon. I get inspired by a bunch of different people. I really like Kim Kardashian's makeup, the Victoria's Secret models', Emma Watson's. Just to name a few :)

5. What beauty products makes you feel instantly good?

Concealer, I beleive  that if your skin looks good, it's all you need.

6. How do you look after your skin?

I cleanse it two times a day. Moisturize morning and night. And do scrubs, masks and tone when I have time or remember.

7. What is your signature sent?

I'm not a huge perfume person. I mean, I can't leave the house without having sprayed on pefume but I like to stick to one sent, which I like to think is mine. Although, I have to say recently I have been torn between two perfumes, so I decided to keep one for winter and one for summer. In the winter, I use Cristalle de Chanel. And in the summer, I use CKin2U from Calvin Klein.

8. What is your haircare secret?

I don't style my hair. I have naturally straight hair so it isn't very crazy on its own. I hardly use any hair products except deep conditioners and a wave enhancer sometimes. I also get a cut/trim about 4 times a year and rinse them with cold water for shine.

9. How do you pamper yourself?

I go get a manicure/pedicure. In the winter I take long, hot baths and maybe put a mask.

10. What is your beauty pet peeve?

I hate it when people have raccoon eyes or super-nude-too-pale lips. Snooki much?

11. What would be your desert island must haves?

I think it would be sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses and good books. I don't really wear makeup in the summer or when I'm somewhere very hot.

12. Do you have a beauty philosophy?

Just have fun with it and experiment, experiment, experiment, I guess :)

Better than MAC?

I never hear alot about STILA eyeshadows. Except maybe "Kitten."  I can't understand why! I LOVE them. Overtime I have acquired a couple that I bought discounted.

For anyone who lives in the city (NY), go to The Makeup Market ( 34th street between Madison and 5th), they sell discounted makeup. The only thing I really recommend from there are the eyeshadows that are a GREAT deal! They are around 6$ instead of 18$ regular price.

Anyway, going back to what I was saying, these eyeshadows are great.  The colors are very nice. There is a very limited amount of fallout. They have shimmery shades and matte ones as well. The pans are huge, a bit less than two times a mac eyeshadow.

Stila eyeshadow VS Mac eyeshadow

Also they are the most pigmented eyeshadows I have ever seen! Their color payoff is amazing!

Here are a couple of swatches:

Top Row, L to R: Kitten, Oasis, Kalahoo, Ray Bottom Row, L to R: Barefoot Contessa, Mystic, Indigo, Shore
I don't own that many MAC eyeshadows, I think I find these better than my MAC ones. Maybe not in color selection but in color payoff and pigmentation, there is no question.

xoxo
